Jeconas Wray, 1850 Franklin Co., VA; census
Posted by: Bob Hunt (ID *****4555) Date: October 13, 2009 at 21:12:58

In the 1850 Census for Franklin Co., VA, there is this entry which spawns several questions:

Wray, Jacovus 50
Elizabeth 47
Sarah 25
John 23
Robert 21
Samuel 19
Joel 17
David 15
Jonathan 12
Rachael 10
David 6

1. Who is this family? They, as a family, don't appear in subsequent censuses nor in references to earlier census. It's not the same as Jacovus Wray+Lucinda Seay, and I've seen no other similar name, Jacovus, in other censuses for the same time period. Granted, there are alternate spellings for Jacovus, including Joconas.

2. Why two Davids in this same household? Sounds like two families living together...

3. But what happened to Jacovus Wray+Lucinda Seay in the 1850 census? They were married in about 1829; neither died before 1850 census; they appear before and after the 1850 census; and it appears that they never migrated to another county/state.
