Hi Ross, We have been on a cruise in the Caribbean. We were maried for 60 years in Oct 2008. I will print some facts from my records. Moses Ray Sr. born about 1710 had his will probated 6 Sep 1768 in Amherst Co. Va. Wife Elizabeth and all his land to three sons, #1 Moses Jr and wife Mary Ann who sold 300 acres 25 Oct 1784 to Wm. Cabel and sold 100 acres 27 Sep 1786 to Wm. Cabel. Moses Jr. is on the Amherst Co. Tax list of 1785. #2 Wm. Ray on 1783 tax list Amherst Co. sold 342 acres to Nicholas Cabell in 1784. #3 Thomas Ray and wife Martha inherited 400 acres on Rock Island Creek which was sold Apr 9, 1786 by Martha and listed as "Late property of Thomas Ray" so I presume he died about 1785. Moses Ray and wife Mary Ann are listed in Amherst Co. at the same time as Moses Ray and wife Elizabeth are listed in Bedford Co or Franklin, Co. Joseph Ray will 6 Oct 1766, Probate 26 May 1767 in Bedford Co. Va. Joseph's wife Martha. Wm Ray inventory 22 Feb 1779 in Bedford Co. Va. Wm. Ray is listed in same house as Joseph Ray in 1752. They could be brothers. Bedford Co formed 1754. April 8, 1747 Ben Ray has survey of 400 acres on Maggotty Creek. Ben Ray is not on the 1749 tax list so I think he died before the June tax list of 1749. Nov 4, 1748 Morgan Bryan wrote, "Near by Maggotty Creek dwells Benjamin Ray an old man of some ninety years and his wife who is about a hundred years old. They are both active and cheerful people who gave us milk to drink and were very kind." I don't think they were that old. (Ken) Morgan Bryan wrote a diary of his trip from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Ken Wray Notify Administrator about this message?
