Hi Julie. My Grandfather is James Wray Born 1756. His brother Ben Wray was born May 28, 1757. You didn't give any birth date for Ben and there are many Ben Rays, (later Wray). Ben Ray was born 1757 in eastern Va. after the big Indian scare of 1755 when they had the big raid in western Va. and Braddock's defeat in Pa. Many people moved east and didn't return for a few years to western Va. Ben's B 1757 grandfather Ben Ray died in 1748 in what is now Franklin Co. Va. on his farm on Maggotty Creek.
Ben Ray B 1757 died Apr 16, 1849 and is buried at Flint Hill on Blackwater River near Wirtz. We have been there and there is no grave marker. Ben 1757 married 1778 Susannah Poteet B c 1765 and died c1821. They had eight children born 1779 to 1795. The first was Ben Ray B 1779 Aug 3rd, Franklin Co and died 5 May 1852. Ben 1779 married Mar 5, 1806 Patsy Goode B 1774 also called Elizabeth.
Ben Wray's 1757 second marriage was May 3, 1832 to Francis Hartwell B 1792 and died 1866, No children of second marriage. Ben Wray 1757 was 75 years old at his marrriage.
Frances was 40 yrs old at the marriage. Ben B 1757 applied for his Rev War Pension Oct 1, 1832 and received $60. per year until he died in 1849. Francis then applied for his pension and recweived the pension until she died in 1866.
