Hi Ross, I have been busy. Sorry I didn't answer your messages sooner. Moses Wray born 1725 and died in 1802. I estimated the birth date of Moses from his first child who was born 1756 (James,a recorded date from his Rev War Record) and Moses wife was about 10 years younger so I thought Moses was about 30 when he was married. The 10th son of Moses Wray and Eliz Morris was Isaac Wray who was born about 1780. The 9th son was Elijah Wray and William Wray was the 6th son. You found that they inherited the land of Moses. They apparently sold out to James Wray the first son of Moses because James Wray ga ve this land to his youngest son Jacovas Wray in 1834. James died Nov 8, 1834 and Jacovas inherited the land and gave it to his youngest son Fletcher Wray when Jacovas died on Jan 9, 1880. The White Oak Bottom is flat land with a creek on the east side where they had their still for making alcohol. There are hills around the flat bottom and their house was on the west side of the bottom land and up the hill west of the house is the Wray Cemetery where they are all buried. The Wrays of Franklin Co are definitely a different family from the Wrays of Amherst county but they could be related two or three generations back. In 1738 the Virginia House of Burgesses passed a law that there would be no Sheriffs, no land patents, no counties organized, no courts and no taxes on the people west of the organized counties of Virginia of 1738 for ten years. Hundreds or thousands of people went west and there are no tax records or land records of these people. I think Ben Wray never had a land patent on his land but his land is mentioned in land patents after 1748. I think you are doing a good job with your research and looking for families in the same area but in western Virginia of 1738 to 1748 there are almost no records. I have not done any research in North Carolina. Ken Wray Notify Administrator about this message?
