I am intrigued by the combination of the Virginia surnames "Pleasants" and "Woodson". My wife's great grandfather was Pleasant Woodson Whitehead. I have long suspected that his two given names were originally family surnames. He lived in Mississippi for his entire life, but both of his parents were from Virginia (I believe in the Powhaten/Buckingham County area). The "Pleasant" portion of his name apparently comes from his maternal grandfather, Pleasant Tucker. Pleasant Tucker was the son of Thomas Tucker and his wife, Mildred. He was born in Powhaten County, VA, on July 4, 1776 (what a birthday!) I have no maiden name for Mildred, and I wonder if it could be Pleasant or Woodson. Does anyone have any information that shows a Mildred in the Pleasant or Woodson family marrying Thomas Tucker?
