The name "Pleasant Woodson" intrigues me. My wife's great grandfather was named Pleasant Woodson Whitehead. I have long suspected that his given names were originally family surnames. He lived in Mississippi for his entire life, but both of his parents (Cary Burch Whitehead and Mildred Ann Tucker) were from Virginia. I don't know any more about the Whitehead family, but Mildred was the daughter of Pleasant Tucker and his wife, Frances Armistead. I've been able to trace the Armistead line back for several additional generations, and there are no names like "Pleasant" or "Woodson". On the Tucker side, all I have is that Pleasant Tucker was the son of Thomas Tucker and his wife, Mildred; I have no maiden name for Mildred. I wonder if she could have been a Pleasant or a Woodson. Does anyone have any insight into this?
