Hi! There really isn't any info on the parents of John or Sarah. Some give her the maiden name of Winston, but there is no real proof of that. All that is for sure is that John Woodson came with wife, Sarah in 1619. He was a surgeon, not a Dr. There was a great difference in those days and a surgeon did not go to medical school. The John Woodson who attended medical school is not our John. There is also no proof as to their birthdates. There is a gap between when they arrived in VA and the birthdates of Robert and John, Jr. The mortality rate for infants was very high in those days and they possibly lost children during that time span. There is also a Deborah mentioned in the will of Sarah Johnson, widow, in 1660. She also mentions Robert and John Woodson. I feel this is their mother, Sarah Woodson, and she remarried after the death of her husband, John Woodson, Sr. It is also interesting to note that in her will she says that her bequest to Deborah Woodson is "for her maintance" and there is no mention of her coming of age. Deborah seems to disappear after that is never mentioned in Woodson family histories. The Flowerdew One Hundred Foundation mentions John and Sarah and he is referred to as a barber/surgeon. His medical skills probably were limited to setting bones, removing bullets/arrows, and doing dental work. Hope this helps. Connie Notify Administrator about this message?
