Marvin Woods, 79, of Madisonville, TN, passed away 6:35 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Morningview Village Transitional Care. He was a successful businessman for over 50 years starting and owning businesses in Monroe and McMinn counties, notably, Woods Lincoln Mercury and Woods Mobile Homes, in which he was President at the time of his death. In all of his business career, what he loved most was dealing with people. Born in Ohio in 1929, his family moved to Meigs Co TN. He later moved to Athens and joined the National Guard and the U.S. Army. He was transferred to Watertown, NY, during the Korean War and served his country at that time. He was a member of the Sweetwater Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Scottish Rite, and a charter member of the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club and a member of the Optimist Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madisonville where he served on many committees and was very active. He was preceded in death by parents, J. R. and Myrtle Sink Woods; brothers, Robert Woods and Burnie Woods; sister, Jewell Woods Wright; and stepdaughter, Patsy Webb Darnell. Survivors are wife, Helen Hysinger Webb Woods; daughters and sons-in-law, Trish Woods Salmon and Phil Salmon, Canton, NC, Donna Woods Rosenfield and Marty Rosenfield, Highlands, NC, Melanie Woods Kirkpatrick and Robert 'Bert' Kirkpatrick, Sweetwater, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Martha Cate Woods, Riceville, TN; former wife and mother of his children, Jewell Starnes Capozzi, Sweetwater, TN; stepdaughter, Janice Webb Heard and husband Frank Heard, of Cleveland, TN; step-sons, Jimmy Webb and wife Sarah, Indianapolis, IN, Allan Webb and wife Jennifer Shoopman Webb, of Madisonville, TN; grandchildren, Allison Salmon Puryear, Heather Woods Hodges, Ashley Woods Irwin, Rob Kirkpatrick, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Keith Darnell and Benji Darnell, Carson Webb, Ethan Webb, Seth Webb and Molly Webb; great grandchildren, Kenslee Hodges and Chase Hodges; sisters, Freida Woods Sisson and husband Troy Sisson, of Athens, TN, and Marie Woods Thompson, Sweetwater, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Curtis and Maxine Woods, of Madisonville, TN; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the many members of First Baptist Church of Madisonville for their love and support and the family appreciates the staff of Morningview Village Transitional Care for the excellent care provided. Family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville. Funeral service will be 8 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2009, at Biereley-Hale Chapel, with Dr. Lon Shoopman and Rev. Curtis Woods officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mike Hodges, Jason Irwin, Keith Darnell, Rob Kirkpatrick, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Benji Darnell. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Woods Mobile Homes. Interment is to be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2009, at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Madisonville Building Fund.
