Jean Corbin of Point Pleasant plantation on the northeast branch of the Cape Fear was the widow of her second husband, Francis Corbin, agent in NC for Earl Granville and member of the Colonial Council, who died intestate in 1767. This Francis Corbin's heir was Edmund Corbin, son of another Francis Corbin, of Charleston, SC, whose widow (with 2 underage children) remarried in 1752 to John Norman. John Norman lived near Dorchester, SC. Both he and his wife were among the about 30 people from this area who took up grants (after the introduction of slavery into Georgia in 1751) to create rice plantations in the area around Midway that later became Liberty county, GA. It is the Francis Corbin of Charleston, SC, who was co-plaintiff with (retired) Indian trader Alexander Wood in 4 lawsuits and about whom I am in search of further information. I am hoping that finding out more about Alexander Wood might cast light on the SC Francis Corbin. Notify Administrator about this message?
