I'm about your age, and my great great grandfather was Col. Alonzo Wood of West Winfield, NY. His father was David Wood an settler of West Winfeild. Its quite a bit east of the counties you refer to, but I do know there was a lot travel by many families west across upstate NY. I have photos of all the gravestones at the Wood Family Cemetry at Woods Corner just south of West Winfield and their names also all list on the Herkimer County Historical Society website.
