I am looking for any information on Major Daniel Benson. A family history states "In 1801 Daniel was appointed ensign in the 3rd Co. of the 4th Regt. of Onondaga Co.; in 1803 he was a lieut.; in 1804, a Captain; in 1807, 2nd Major of a newly formed regiment. He was a Major in the War of 1812, and his son Elias was a drummer boy..." (typed as written)
How can I verify this information and add more to it? Is there a military record which might name his wife, parents or children?
