In Reply to: MARTIN & WAFFORD 1870 Jackson Co., GA by Ellen Martin of 244

I have a Martha Wafford who married Isom B. Allen, and a Cynthia "Sintha" Wafford who married Isom's father Hiram Allen. This was in Jackson Co. GA in the 1830'40's.

Now to add more mess to this. Hiram Allen's son Columbus H. Allen had a daugther, Nancy Elizabeth C. "Lummie" Allen in Calhoun Co. Ala. She married Rev. Rufen H. Martin b. 1864 in GA. Rufen's parents were Jonathan Martin and Martha Unknown. Other children were Robert and John M. Martin.

I would be willing to bet that these "Waffords" are in reality "Wofford" descendant, as the area was crawling with Woffords during this time period.

Another daugther of Columbus Allen was my grandmother, Lula "Lou" Ellen Allen who married Caleb Milton Ford, the grandson of Isaac Manley Ford and Sara Ann Wofford. I. M. and S. A. were married in Floyd Co. GA Dec 24, 1844, then moved to Benton/Calhoun Co. AL. Sara Ann Wofford's name was written as "Wafford" on the marriage application, but know as a fact that she was a "Wofford", as the name continues to be a middle name for males, in my line down to my generation.
