Hi Judy. Just got back to this forum today. The names listed in John Waford/Wofford's 1809 will are : John , Daniel, Nancy, Jessee, Mary , Jammey(James) and Isaac. The last two are young, because John instructs his wife Nancy to take care of them till 21 and to school them. Perhaps your anscestors were descended from either of the two younger boys, since they were not very old when their Dad died. 1823 would be about the right age of a child of either of them. Some of my Woffords went to AR. from Dent CO. MO. around 1890 or before. I know there are a lot of Woffords in AR. before that, have seen them on census. My ancestor was William Lafayette son of John who died in 1809. I don't know if there is any connection to your Grandfather , with the middle name of Lafayette or not, or if that just happened to be popular at that period of time. Virginia
