Listed as living with Gilbert Utter and family per the 1880 US Census is "Phibe" Utter. She is listed as mother.

Thus far, the only Phebe/Phoebe of the right age I can find is Phoebe Underhlll, wife of Henry Utter. In the 1881 Canada Census, she and Henry are in Ontario. However, I have not seen any children for them named William or Gilbert. They do have children named Mary, Margaret and Catherine.

Further, I have seen different parents for Henry Utter, including John Utter and Margaret Houghtaling and Jesse Utter and Sarah Clarke.

To add to the confusion, I have seen what I think is another Henry Utter (or two) with wives Elizabeth Lockwood and Mary Unknown.

Finally, I have also seen another husband for Phebe Underhill, Palmer Utter. Or is the husband really Henry Palmer or Palmer Henry?

Any further information, calrifications, etc. are welcome.

Tom Nevlud,
Raleigh, NC
