Yes Nancy is a decendent of Garret....Her father was John Swearingen Sr...he was married twice and had eight children by his first wife and nine by his second wife...Nancy is a child of his second marage...

SWEARINGEN JOHN SR.
Comments: John was born in Edgecombe County in the British Colony of North Carolina in about 1757. In his youth he moved with his family to Anson, Cadoret and Montgomery Counties of North Carolina. About the time of the Revolutionary War he and his brothers moved to Edgefield District ( before about 1820 South Carolina was divided into Districts and not Counties) in the British Colony of South Carolina. He was a Lieutenant in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War serving under Captain Arthur Simpkins in Col. Purvis' Regiment under General Andrew Williamson of South Carolina. In 1777 his brother Thomas was under his command. He was in the battles of Kings Mountain, Guilford Court House, Euaw Springs, Cowpens and was in the Florida Expedition. In 1785 he was "overseer of the road from Piny Woods House to John Jones (farm)". This is near Trenton, South Carolina. In 1790 he owned three slaves and records show he owned land in Edgefield District. South Carolina became a state in 1788. In about 1793 John and his family left South Carolina, probably by ox and wagon, following the Cherokee Indian Trail of Forks to what is now Midville Georgia and than the Lower Ochee Path to what is now Dublin, Georgia which at that time was in that part of Montgomery County that would later become Laurens County (1807). In 1798 John served on the Petit Jury of Montgomery County. Born unto John and Elizabeth were Samuel, John, Henry, Bolin, Frederick, Van, Phoebe and Sophia.
