Sarah (Vaughn) Bookout was born 20 Oct 1787 in Washington Co., NC (what's now modern day Washington Co., Tennessee) and married John Bookout on 20 Mar 1807 in Knox Co., TN. Original marriage record states that John Vaughn was father of the bride, mother not listed. I have the names and birthdates for all of her 13 known children. All but the youngest (Malinda) were born in Wayne Co., KY, Malinda was born in Fentress Co., TN. I am descended from two of John and Sarah's children, James Oliver Bookout on my moms side of the family and Malinda (Bookout) Brown on my dads side. My parents never knew they were related until I told them on their 50th wedding aniversery. They were 4th cousins which makes me my own 5th cousin. Sarah was supposedly half Cherokee which given when and where she was born is highly likely. Washington Co., NC (TN) was in the very heart of the Cherokee Nation until the trail of tears in 1838. Several descendants of John and Sarah that I am in touch with claim that family tradition states that they has Native-American blood. One has had DNA testing that seems to confirm it. She is descended from John and Sarah's oldest daughter Nancy who married Isaac Wood. Isaac was a brother to Della Elizabeth Wood, wife of James Oliver Bookout, my ggg-grandparents.
