The information you provided from the Bible doesn't fit the family of Philip Stoy of Haddonfield, NJ however you may have a clue on where the Stoys came from before the US. You might also check into the family of Rev/Dr. William Stoy of Lebanon Co. PA. He was born 1726 in Westphalia, Germany and died 1801 in Philadelphia, PA. Check with the Stoy Museum in the Hauck Memorial Library of the Lebanon County Historical Society for further information.

Rev./Dr. Stoy married Maria Elizabeth Maus (dau. of Frederick) and had the following children: Samuel, Gustavus, George, Susanna (b 1760), Elisabeth (b 1762), William Stoy, Dorothea, Henry, and Frederick (b 1778 PA and d 1821 Augusta, GA)Stoy.

From a review in the DAR library in Washington, DC, I reviewed a book on Fayette Co. PA - Vol. II (1882) by Franklin Ellis. On page 478 it provides information on Dr. Henry William Stoy [son of Rev. William Stoy above] as born 7 Sept 1784. "Came to Briedgeport 1817 until 1822went to Greensburg, Westmoreland Co. 1832 returned to Bridgeport. 1852 to Shinston, Harrison Co. W.VA and died there 2 Feb 1858" If his birth year is correct, it would mean his father was about 58 which seems late but not impossible.

This Dr. Henry William Stoy was married 2 times - 1814 to Katharine E. Cook (d 1824) and had 5 children. Married 2nd 1826 to Eleanor M. Watt (d 1852) and had 5 children. I've never tracked this any further as I am related to those in NJ however the birth year you mentioned (1819) fits the timeperiod of these children. Don't know if this Dr. Stoy traveled to Germany but may have and been there long enough to have children born there.

There is a web page (www.stayfamily.org} that gives a lot of information on the Stey/Stoy family in England. Even though you are thinking and seeing Germany, you should check this out in case they stopped there before coming to the US
