PALCICH and PALSICH would be Americanized spellings, the original spelling would have been PALCIC and PALSIC, with a diarcritical mark over the C, giving it the sound of CH... thus the Americanized spelling you see today.

Luckily names were NOT changed at Ellis Island or whichever port at which he arrived. Ship manifests were created from passports obtained by the immigrant in his home country.

How do you know the birth dates? Are they from church records in Slovenia? If not then you may suspect they are not always correct.

The only places I find Anton PALSICH is in a Minnesota State (not Federal) census and a border crossing, showing he lived at Eveleth.

Have you found his ship manifest? Could this be him?

Name: Anton Palcic
Arrival Date: 21 Feb 1901
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Bremen
Place of Origin: Krain
Ship Name: Lahn

Destination Eveleth. He was traveling with Janez PALCIC (Janez= John)

Robert
