Hello!

Metrical books are Vital books (birth, marriage, death). Archbishop's archive in Ljubljana doesn't have them for all of Slovenia. Maribor's archive covers eastern part of Slovenia, but you need to know that there are still lot's of parishes in Slovenia that hold these books at parish offices and did not send them to the archives (unfortunately).
Requests to the archvies can be sent in English. Ljubljana's archive has Vital books for Metlika that cover: Births 1848-1905, Marriages 1816-1864, Deaths 1843-1904.

If you need anything else, you can contact me by my email.

Regards,
Lidija Sambunjak
