Hello Robert,

Read your answer and found it quite interesting. I would believe this custom also may aply to my ancestry in Southern Moravia, but can't say 100% for sure. One similar practice which I persoanlly have encountered is when I visited my ancestral home village, there were (and maybe are) three "distinct" branches of the Valasek family. They seem to think they are not related, but I have my doubts. Anyway, when I was introduced and someone would inevitably ask, which Valasek family I was connected to, they would reply Valasek musikante, or the Valasek musician family, referring to my great grandfather who was well known with his orchestra in the early 1900's. After saying that, everyone knew which branch I belonged to. Unfortunately, the house which my grandfather was born in has left the family and the current residents probably have no idea whose house it was.
