[THE CENSUS OF VIRGINIA IN 1624: Jamestown City, VA
Arrival in colony on ship 'George',of Slater, John age 22 free man, residing in the household of Mihell Wilcockes, Elizabeth City. From passenger lists: (1)Wilcockes, Mihell, 1610 Prosperous voyage, aged 31 at muster, Elizabeth City with John Slater and 3 servants; wife Elizabeth on Concord; (2)Wilcockes, Elizabeth, 1621 Concord voyage, aged 23 at muster, Elizabeth City, wife to Michell on ship Prosperous; (3)Slater, Ann, 1622 Gift voyage, aged 17 at muster, Elizabeth City, with Michell Wilcockes and John Slater.]
Wonder if anyone has information in later census, deeds, taxes, etc. indicating John or Ann Slater survived and had children. Also wonder if there is a connection to Edward Slater,b.1644 in Piscataway, Middlesex, NJ; d.28 Jan 1702; Piscataway, NJ; m. Elizabeth Bonham from a Mayflower family. Several sites state that Edward is a dead end; no Slater has been found on a passenger list to Mass Bay colony during the time period before Edward's birth; no parents have been found that I have been able to locate. A John Slater is credited in King Philip's War, under Capt Nathl Davenport & Capt. Ting, July 24, 1676, Mass Colony. There are records on Slaters in Woodbury CT, mid 1700's. Samuel Slater, the industrialist, arrived from England in 1789. Other Slaters continued to arrive at other times, but none would have been closely related to these earlier Slaters in Jamestown or Piscataway.
