I have been following this discussion regarding the parentage of Samuel Shelly for some time. The source that I have used is the History of Bucks County by Davis, published in 1905, a second edition of a previously published 1876 version. It states very clearly on page 353 the nine descendants of Christian Shelly and his widow, Susanna. This includes Samuel Shelly married to Sarah Dreisbach. The issue of his birthdate has been a puzzle to me for some time. Is it possible that the date of death for Christian is incorrect, and that the date of birth posted by so many for Samuel is also incorrect?

Recently, I was at the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, PA, and there was the first I had heard of Samuel Shelly and Anna Biedler. There was a suggestion there that Samuel Shelly married to Sarah Dreisbach was possibly a son of Samuel Shelly married to A. Biedler. I have found nothing, so far, to indicate that.

I located the headstone for Samuel Shelly and his wife Sarah Dreisbach Shelly (the parents of Sarah Dreisbach are also buried at this cemetery)> Samuel's birthdate on the headstone is 1795. Is it possible that this Samuel is the son of Samuel and Anna Shelly? I could find no list of children that included my Samuel.

I don't know the source of the information for the Davis book, but I haven't noticed it discussed, and why it is considered not correct. There is no mention of a Samuel married to Anna Biedler there.
