A Famous Heroine in Want

Miss Kate Shelly, of Moingona, Ia., who made her way through a raging blizzard at midnight several years ago, and, by signaling to a crowded express train on the Chicago and North Western Railroad, saved it from plunging through a wrecked bridge, has applied to the Iowa Legislature for employment in the State House as a menial. She is destitute and has to support her aged mother and invalid brother. It has been the Herald’s privilege to meet her and we can say she is a very worthy and honorable lady.
