In Sheley cemetery, just north of the Mahaska county line in Poweshiek county, Iowa, is a stone with the name Samuel, son of J. S. and E. Sheley born March 23, 1828, died Dec. 15, 1854. I have become interested in the Sheley line because a Sheley married Charlotte Saunders, daughter of Moses Gunnell Saunders who moved to the Browntown (Montezuma) area from Virginia along with Charlotte in the 1850's. Did Charlotte marry Sheley in Virginia? Interesting too, Moses G. Saunders's father, also Moses G. Saunders, was married to a Rachel Sheley. Buried in Sheley cemetery also are several people with the last name of Booze. Did these families (Saunders, Sheley, Booze) all migrate from Virginia together, at different times, or were some of them already here? Mary, can you help fill in some gaps for me?
