Death: 6 Apr 1899 in ,Pike,Illinois Burial: Blue River Cem.,Detroit,Pike,Illinois Change Date: 25 May 2004 Note: Virginia Ward Baker lists his birth as "1828." IGI has two birth listing for him. One in 1826 in Ohio and the other in 1835 in Indiana. According to the 1860 Pike Co. Illinois Census he was age 32 and born in Indiana. He was a farmer, with $1000 of real estate and $450 of personal property. Also enumerated in the household was his wife Mary, and son Thomas. *******Also present was *Alexander Russell*, age 27, born in Ohio, a laborer. This was probably a *brother* of Mary. Found on the 1870 Census for Newburg Twp., Pike, Illinois. He was 44 born in Ohio. A farmer with real estate worth $6000 and $100 of personal property. Enumerated with his wife Mary and seven children: Thomas, alexander, Catherine, Elisa J., David, Mary and Nathan. They were living at the farm next to George and Artimeta Foreman and their family. Also, the David and Nancy Foreman family was just a few farms away. Also on 1880 Census in Newberg, Pike, Illinois as a farmer age 54. His wife, Mary Russell was not present...perhaps elsewhere or dead. Seven children were in the household. This farm was adjacent to the farms of George A. Foreman and Turner Foreman. Nathan was reported born in Ohio, his wife in Ireland. Also on Ancestry.com My Durall Family...which gives birth 13 Aug 1826. Durall gives his birth as 13 Apr, 1790 but in "Prairie Pioneers Of Illinois" Virginia Ward Baker of R.R. 2, Box 259,Pittsfield, Illinois, 62363 has the date five days later on 18 Apr, 1790. Delbert M. Osborne gives his birth place as Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky. Another family source indicates birth place as Lincoln Co. Kentucky. Another entry in "Prairie Pioneers of Illinois", Vol. 2, pp. 91-92 from Mildred Foreman Gage of 23 Chadwick Wade Dr., Ashville, NC 28804 gives his birth on 10 April, 1791 in KY.On the Morris Tree and Durall Family on Ancestry. com is birth is given as 10 Apr 1791. Delbert M. Osborne indicates he was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Pittsfield, Pike, Illinois. Delbert M. Osborne lists the birth of a son, David Foreman (Jr.)in 1816. He married Rebecca Ann Hays. Virginia Ward Baker of R.R.2, Box 259, Pittsfield, Illinois 62363 lists the following as some descendants: 2 generation Isaac and Mary Polton, 3 generation Charles and Orrie Byrd, 4 generation Lucy and Floyd Ward, 5 generation Virginia and Paul Baker, 6 generation Linda and Dennis Gibbons also Laura and Jan Lingenpeel. David Nicholas Foreman, a farmer, living in Kentucky participated in the War of 1812 (as did his brother, Jacob). According to "Foreman Family Lineage" compiled by Mildred Foreman Gage 1986, David was a private on the roll of Cap. Isaac Cunningham's company, second regiment, Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia comanded by Col. John Donaldson. He is also shown on the roll of Cap. Peter Jordan's Company, Barbee's Regiment, Kentucky Militia as a Corporal. He enlisted at about age 22 on 23 Aug. 1812, 6 months (service time?). Some of this War of 1812 information is also found on the Mercer Co., Ky internet site. In a bounty land warrant application (patent) filed in Pike Co., Illinois before acting Justice of the Peace, P. G. Athey, he states that he did perform military service with the above details and that he had volunteered at Harrodsburgh in Mercer Co. Kentucky on or about 1 Aug 1812 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in about 3 1/2 months of said war. This patent application document is dated 29 May 1855. (Application #164.621, warrant #37.841) From info received from Charlotte Ryan from 3025 Ryan Ave., Santa Clara, CA 95051: " Film #825598, pg 690, "Album of Pike Co., Illinois Portrait & Biography" it states that James W. Foreman's father, David, was born near Lexington, KY, a farmer, participated in War of 1812. James's mother was Margaret Galloway, born in Ireland. They were married in Kentucky, moved to Highland Co, Ohio; after 4 years they moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio and then to Warren Co., Indiana; moved to Newburg Twp., Pike Co., Illinois in 1839.(Mildred Foreman Gage indicated they moved to Illinois in 1840.) It states that the mother, Margaret, died in 1835; the father, David Nicholas remarried to Elizabeth Purcell, he died in July 1862. They had 13 children. [The data base produced by me (Donald W.Clements) in 2002, determined a possible sixteen children from his first marriage alone.] David died on 18 July 1856, not 1862. Margaret was probably born in Chester Co., PA as her father came from Ireland in 1766 and was there until he moved to Mercer Co., KY in 1791. David and family are on the 1850 Pike Co., Illinois Census. David Nicolas Foreman actually settled in Pike Co., Illinois in 1839. Pike Co., Illinois was one area in Illinois where Public Domain lands were located. These lands were sold to qualified buyers or were given to veterans of wars such as the War of 1812 as part payment for service. Following military service a veteran could make application for such land and if he qualified would be given a warrant for land. Later the warrant could be used to"purchase" such land. Until the mid-1840s these tracts of military bounty land were found in three places, portions of Il Father: David FUHRMAN b: 1755 in Elgershausen,Hessen-Kessell,(now Germany) Mother: Elizabeth HORINE b: Abt 1763 in Of Prussia,(Germany) Marriage 1 Margaret GALLOWAY b: 1785 in ,Chester,Pennsylvania Married: 12 Dec 1808 in ,Woodford,Kentucky Note: _UIDAEB20F8421AED811BD2FFC0280D00D3426C4 Children Mary FOREMAN b: Abt 1810 in ,,Kentucky Peter FOREMAN b: 1811 in ,,Kentucky Isaac FOREMAN b: 22 Jun 1813 in ,,Kentucky Jacob FOREMAN b: 2 Oct 1814 in ,Mercer,Kentucky David FOREMAN b: 1816 in ,,Ohio Eliza FOREMAN b: Abt 1817 in ,,Ohio John B. G.. Singer's Foreman data found on Ancestry. com. The J. G. Singer data had David Fuhrman's origin in Elgerhausen,Hessen-Kessel, Germany. Internet sites and the LDS Library Catalog spell it Elgershausen. Also, the LDS site places the town in Hessen-Nassau, Preussen. One internet site mentions that the town is in northern Hesse. The J. G. Springer data suggests the possibility that David Fuhrman was a Hessian soldier during the US Revolutionary War. Also, William Foreman(bforeman46@home.com) indicated "immigrated 1783, Hessian soldier?" See notes under his son, David Nicholas Foreman for several possible Fuhrman "origins." According to a "History of Ross and Highland Co. Ohio" David Foreman (Fuhrman) arrived in Clay Township about 1816 (Clay Co. later became Ross and Highland counties.) David changed his German name Fuhrman to Foreman. Also, according to Mrs. Erika Bartley, a former German citizen, fluent in German (has been a professional translator of English and German) and knowlegable of German customs and practices, the name David is and was virtually never used by Germans. Thus, David Fuhrman appears to have changed his entire name. She also indicates that she cannot think of a German male first name that even sounds like David. Several explanations of the origins of the Fuhrman/Foreman family in North America have been given by various family members. Perhaps one is correct or none. Perhaps there are some elements of truth in any or all of them. Three explanations are given below. In notes provided from Mrs Charlotte Ryan of Santa Clara, California, a Foreman decendant through David Nicholas Foreman who was a son of David Fuhrman Foreman, it is indicated that, "David [Nicholas] Foreman was decended from a Saxon ancestor who came over with the [Lord] Baltimore Colony." This statement is probably very important genealogically but generates several questions.---Which of his ancestors was this? Was it on the paternal or maternal lines? Also, what is meant by Saxon? Saxon might mean a German or perhaps an Anglo Saxon, a term often meaning an English person. (according to Charlotte this information is found in "History of Illinois" Vol.VI, Greene Co., p.14. The Baltimore Colony was a very large tract of land granted in 1632 by charter from King Charles I to Cecilius Calvert the second Baron (Lord) Baltimore. The first settlers arrived on the ships Arc and Dove in 1633 and established St. Mary's City. The settlement was originally designed to operate as an ancient European manorial system (a feudal system of landed gentry and their peasant serfs). However, frontier North American environmental and social conditions never permitted the system to operate this way. Many settlers from the British Isles entered North America via this English "proprietary" colony, although settlers of other European origins, including Germans, came later. Cecilius never visited North America and entrusted governorship of the colony to his brother, Leonard Calvert. Cecilius originally conceived the colony to be a haven for his fellow Roman Catholics who then lived, with certain restrictions on their lives, in anti Roman Catholic, Protestant England. The colony adopted a manifesto of tollerance for all religious persuasions ("An Act Concerning Religion"), the first such law passed by a civil regime anywhere. Today, we know the area as Maryland (also nicknamed the "Free State" or "The Old Line State") named after the wife of Charles I, Queen Henrietta Maria, by a grateful Cecilius Calvert. A Foreman decendant, Delbert M. Osborn (In 2000 he lived at 560 Almond Lane, Red Bluff, California 96080 phone 530 527 2472 email flatalmond@snowcrest.net)mentioned two other origins for the Foreman family in America given by various decendants. In addition to the mentioned Baltimore Colony some believe one or more ancestors were Quakers.
