I hae been searching all the Rousseau sites for info that might help me with my line.
Your name-Hiliare Rousseau, took my eye. Are your Rousseaus Catholic?

One of the first settlers in and around VA was Theodore DuRousseau, who landed on the James River in Manankton, Virginia. He was a widower with several young sons. It appears from the ships passenger list, he prob. was a Widower. Exactly where he settled and who his children are is still a mystery. We believe he had a son Hilliare Rousseau. There is much documentation on this line. One thing is repeated over and over: Theodore Du Rousseau(x) came to America as a Huguenot. My grandmother alsays told me the same. That is why it is getting a bit confusing.

I do find the earliest sons of Theodore seemed to prosper. In my research, I have found that NY State has a huge amount of Rousseau/Rezeau families. One brance settled on Staton Island/Long Island NY. Another Family settled in Deer Hill, NY. It appears there was a huge group of Huguenots that settled in the area. In fact, my line came from Florioda. I just found out they came down thru from NY,VA,NC,SC,GA,Ky,Alab,Tex,Fla,etc.

Hope this helps.

Happy Hunting!

E Rousseau Godfrey
