John George Riegel, the son of John Riegel married Anna Maria Plattner in Tulpehocken by Rev. Stover 9 Jan. 1738. This is the first documented record of the Riegel family in Burks, Co., PA. John Riegel left Ulmet, Germany with Georg Pfaffenberger and family in 1733. He was a miller. In Tulpehocken, he and his wife, Catherine Elisabeth sold two acres of land for the first meeting house at Host. It was part of 178 acres purchased in 1743. For documentation on some of these German families including the Riegels, see: Thomas Poffenberger, "From Germany to Antietam, The early history of the Pfaffenberger Family, Second Edition," Xlibris, 2003.
