Hi, thanks -
Yes, I've found Rachel in various places in Morgan Co. I've found Rachel with Alexander and Tilitha Wilday in the 1850 census, she was 13yrs old. They were in their early 20s. In civil war pension papers regarding her 1st and 2nd husbands (Thomas Shepperd and James Bolejack) various members of the Wilday family are witnesses for her and her children. Charles Wilday states she is a niece, Rebecca (Rhea) Truitt states she is a sister, but another of the children of Samuel Rhea and Eleanor Wilday state that Rachel is a 1/2 sister.
But if she is a daughter of Samuel Rhea (also spelled Ray in census records), why does she give Wilday as her maiden name in the records of her first marriage? In the obits of several of her children, they give the name of Rachel Ray as mother. Very confusing. Any ideas or suggestions welcomed!
Mary
