"BINGO", this is your lucky day! I have more information than I can type here. My Email: wrightcroft@earthlink.net

James Rhea married Elizabeth Meek Nov.27,1795.
He was the 4th of 7 children. parents were William
Rhea and wife Elizabeth Clark. Wm Rhea's will dated Nov 1,
1773 has wife Elizabeth Clark, Uncle Archibald. His Bible
relates he had a brother Archibald-died Oct 5, 1775; and brother James-died Nov 17, 1795.

BATH Co.VA records: Elizabeth Clark, dau.of James and
Elizabeth (Summers) Clark was born in Augusta Co,VA. She
married William Rhea of Rockbridge Co. VA. Bible records
show Elizabeth died 23 Oct, 1804 and William on 25 April
1802. William Rhea was in the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church in 1753. In 1767 The Court granted him to grow
1,650 pounds of hemp for Augusta County. William served
in the French and Indian War.

It seems Uncle Archibald Rhea (1720-1774)married @ 1755
a cousin Margaret Campbell (@1735-after 1777) and Archibald
is shown to have father William Rhea (@1687-1777) and
aparently married another Eliz Clark, daughter of yet another James Clark,(d. 1774). The Margaret Campbell ancestry goes back to Dougal Campbell born @ 1474 at Inverary,Argyll,Scotland. He was a grandson of first Earl of Argyll, Bradalbane line.

The Clark family is ancient in British Isles, derived from
latin "clericus' meaning a priest or connected to the clergy. Your Eliz Clark who married William Rhea first
signs with him on deeds in 1766. In my notes it seems they moved to KY. [Mrs. Mary (Latham)Norton of Calif., and head of the Campbell Clan Assn.of Calif. is of this line. Eliz
had 10 siblings, parents were James Clark & Eliz Summers
(this record show different deaths; his in 1778 and hers in 1781. He has a large military history. James Clark who settled in Augusta Co. in 1740 was a land agent for William Beverley. James's plantation was over 800 acres. The old
plantation home stood until about 1928. Tradition says,
his father was John Clark a brother of Jonathan Clark.

The immigrant ancestor, traditon says, was John Clark, born about 1614 who came from County Kent, Eng. and settled at Jamestown between 1630-1635. He died at Jamestown 1644/5. His wife was Hannah Wiatt, whom he married @ 1640. Much has been written in the Wm & Mary College Quarterly Magazine about the antiquity of the Clerke family in Kent.
I better quit for now. Email: wrightcroft@earthlink.net
