well, I think we´re talking about all Rey families. Not only the ones from Spain.
Also known is, that there are different roots possible.
You´re right, if you say that in spain there MAY be the possibilty of jewish roots. But it is not necessarily so.
Also there is a possibility for this in france
Also it´s possible, that there are some other roots.
In the former spanish netherlands, the people translated the name "coninck" or "Koninck" into the spanish word "Rey".
Additionally there are several possibilities to write a name in the middle ages (this you should know).
So the name "Rey" was possibly written also in this manners:
Rey, Roi, Roire, Reyde, Reyh, etc.
In the year 1000 to 1200 there are lot´s of people with the name "Rey" or Roi or Roire. Later on lots of catholic and huguenotte...
I just say it again. The Rey-name may have jewish roots and may have not. Who knows?.
My family researches its roots and the name since 1887. Do you also? We have a family book of over 400 pages. Our archives are held by the catholic church/vatican in aix le chapelle (Aachen) and Rome.
