I would like to find more information regarding my Rea ancestry and thought you might be able to help. From my Aunt who was married to my Uncle (Bill) William Gardell Rea (deceased): “You are from David Lee Rea and his wife Helen Mar Clark. His brother Johnathan came to California first and after the Civil War ask his brother David to come to California before he killed someone. As I remember, Green Lee was David's uncle. The little community of Matthews is where the Providence Church and old cemetery is located that is full of Rea's. The Rea's gave the land for the Church. It is Historic. Don't miss President Polk's home tour. The old log kitchen once belonged to Old Billy Rea. At the time the Polk home was restored, the old Rea kitchen was the last standing it was brought to the Polk home and installed. There is a Billy Rea Road also. There is a Betsy Rea Blankenship whom we met and just loved. She was a teacher and her husband was a Pharmacist. As I remember there is a Rea Reunion in late June. David Lee Rea died of small pox in Stockton, Ca. Oct 30, 1875. David Lee and Helen Mar Clark Rea honeymooned on Henry Rea plantation near Charlotte 1848.” Genealogy of California Rea’s: David Lee Rea birth date: Sep 27, 1827 in Charlotte, NC m.
