Melissa - You Are So Very Welcome!

As I sit here and study your excellent "Research Paper", I am impressed with your furnishing of maps of the area you are referring to. One simply cannot do research without maps and I am grateful to you for including same.

The abbreviated Time Line I sent, was to identify the Christmas RAY, of your paper, and try to establish a proper migratory pattern for him. My efforts to find an early North Carolina Deed for Christmas RAY, b 5th February 1686, Charles Parish, York Co., VA.,{1} failed - perhaps later.

In establishing Christmas RAY, of Charles Parish, York Co., VA., and Abbington Parish, Gloucester Co., VA., it was important to identify his brother Thomas RAY of Charles Parish, York Co., VA.

You are correct - in your identification of them as "Brothers - Sons of Christmas RAYE", whose 91 acres were surveyed on the 9th September 1685, as shown in the 1691 Patent to Christmas RAYE {2} and the 1720 July 14th Deed from Thomas RAY of Charles Parish, York Co., VA and Christmas RAY of Abbington Parish in Gloucester Co., VA {3}

NOTE: The 1696 Will of Thomas REA {4} of Charles Parish of York Co., VA was included, to show he did not leave any of his estate to "Sons".

It appears this Thomas REA may have been from Ireland as his Will states:

"Whole estate to son-in-law Robert PENROD/PESROD and his heirs, which is now in Virginia both of hoggs and cattle and horses and debts that is due to me in Virginia and elsewhere of lands if may happen to fall to me by right of heirship in Ireland or elsewhere.

Signed: Tho; REA
Wits: William MALORY
Rich: ELLIT
Sam'l PENROS/PESROD

The Charles Parish Records also show:

1667 - Thomas RAY, d 26th February 1667 {5}

NOTE: Francis RAY shown in the area of your research, can be traced to the Lunenburg Co., VA Records.

Your research, is so good, it definitely calls for more. Again - Thank You.

till later,

Lois
