That was a good obsevation. Maybe now we maybe getting somewhere on these lost Ray lines so much earlier confusion.
I am pretty sure our Garrard Rays come by the one of the Huguenot Rays. Jean Ray in the French Church also called himself Jan Ray in the Dutch records. Jospeh Ray came about the same time to New Jersey with the Demarists. They lived pretty close to the Dedericx or Teators. Some of them went to the French Colonies in Va from New York Abraham Sally John Hatton John Cotton both called Jean as well. It looks the 2nd group came to Va with John Van Meter and Joost Hite while the 3rd group came the same way except they made only a brief stop in Frederick Co Va before proceeding to Anson Bladen nc then settling in Rowan co NC the Jersey Settlement.

Bertie NC appears to also have been another Dutch French Colony which also came down from New York and New Jersey.
