Good Morning Raymond: Yesterday was - go to market day - and I did not do a proper research job on: John RAY - Revolutionary War Soldier From Wilkes Co., NC., - Lived on Panther Creek - Haywood Co., NC. First, please let me clarify my remarks, that since John RAY of the Haywood Co., NC., Records, did not apply for the 1830's Revolutionary War Veterans Pension, he may not have been a Soldier of The American Revolution. There is always the chance, he was awarded a Military Land Warrant, and hence would not have been eligible for a Pension. ITEM: A review of the last three {3} Haywood Co., NC., Federal Census Records is definitely in order: 1830 Federal Census Haywood Co., NC., John RAY - Males: 0 1 1 1 2 0 0 0 1 - Head of Household - Aged 60-70 1840 Federal Census, Haywood co., NC., - John RAY, Sr., 1 White Male - Aged 70-80 1850 Federal Census, Haywood Co., NC., John RAY - Age 78 FOR THE RECORD: John RAY {1830} & John RAY Sr.,{1840}, of the Haywood Co., NC census records show: ....... ...........b ca 1760-1770................ which dates would indicate he may well indeed have been the John RAY, Revolutionary War Soldier of the Wilkes Co., NC., and Haywood Co., NC., Records. As to the 1850 Federal Census all manner of things may have occured: #1. In 1850, according to the two previous records - John RAY, Sr., would have been: 80-90 not 78 years old. #2. John RAY, Sr., may simply have forgotten how old he was {it happens} or the census taker may have misunderstood the age he was given. #3. John RAY, Sr., himself, may have been fishing in Panther Creek, hunting in the hills, tending to the livestock, or taking a nap in the sun somewhere and someone else gave the information to the census taker. CONCLUSION: The John RAY and the John RAY, Sr., in the 1830 and 1840 Federal Census of Haywood Co., NC., do indeed show correctly, for the possibility he was the John RAY, Revolutionary War Soldier from Wilkes Co., NC., who settled on Panther Creek {present day Fines Creek Township} Haywood Co., NC., prior to the beginning of the 19th Century.
