Joann: I know nothing about this thallessemia what ever and have no thoughts on it, or ever heard of it, but I will relate to you what happened to me, while serving in the marine corp in the late 60's I ended up in a navy hospital in an intensive care unit almost dead, if not for my young age and the shills of some of the best doctors and staff I had the good fortune to be in their care I would just be a number on some stst sheet some where and a memory to my family, they got to me almost to late but brought me in any way as quick as possible, a blood work up was done for transfusions, I don't know the details but it was found my blood was different than normal the chem inbalance was way different than normal, only one in 100,000 people had it and it was from mixing of populations of the world long before governments and civilization existed, once they knew this they brought me out of the coma I was in and my injuries which were that most people would survive, healed and I was able to recover with little damage left over, I've heard all the things about what I think you are leading to and sister what the doctors told me blows your melungeon theory of that disease clear out of the water who ever started is not in touch with reality or out to make a buck, all that does not exist in the way you or who ever told you it did, please don't put anymore of it out here on the net...jim
