David,

The names surely intrique me, but none of our Ray lines went over to Bath County from Washington County, KY that I know of. Seems like our lines went west of Bardstown, slowly but surely, and then to far western Jackson purchase area and then on to the states west of us.

I don't know where you live now, David, but if you could go to research in the deeds in Bath County, this might provide some clues. Not always, but so often I have found clues to parentage in the deeds where our Rays lived, and sometimes it helps in finding where they come from as well.

The names intrique me because some are from our family too. My husband descends from John Ray, Sr. of Washington Co., Ky (Springfield is the county seat). That is only an hour, a bit more from our county, so back in the 70's I began to spend my days off going over to the courthouse, studying all the Rays in the deeds there as well as some of the other records, wills, etc. I still haven't exhausted the records.
I wish I could help you,but I can't go over east that way these days now my aged mother has come. Why don't you try Rootsweb, bath County site to see if someone over there could search for you. The genealogy helper says Bath County formed in 1811 and has land records, marriage records and probate records dating back to 1811. Then before that you would go into Montgomery County records. Do you have access to Ancestry.com and maybe look at the census records, if you don't, let me know.

Ann Sipes
