Looking for descendants of Nicholas Ray of Anne arundel County, Maryland who died there between 1804 when he wrote his will and 1807 when his will was first acknowledged by one of the witnesses, Benjamin Carr. A copy of the will was found in Anne Arundel County, Will Vol. J.G. #2, pp 394-395 [1-3-12-16], photostatic copy received by myself from Maryland Archives in Annapolis. This younger Nicholas Ray's father was William Ray whose will was probated in 1782 in AA Co., MD, same time as Nicholas's grandfather, William Ray's will was probated as well. This Nicholas Ray married probably Ann Darby and had four sons, James Ray, William Alfred Ray, George W. Ray and Asa Ray. He mentions also an unborn child and at the final distribution, this child was named Martha Ann Ray. This Nicholas Ray lived on land originally belonging to his grandfather, William Ray, called Hammond and Gist, which had been quit claimed to him by his Uncle John Ray, Sr.. Nicholas Ray mentioned his mother-in-law, Ann Darby, who was living with him at time of thewriting of his will. He also metioned land in Montgomery County, MD now in the possession of this three sisters, Sarah Darby, Nancy Green and Rebeckah Chandler. In the final distribution of Nicholas Ray's estate, his widow, also named Ann, had then re-married, probably a man named Jonathan Blower. This was found in Vol. J.G. #3, pp 18a-18b, A.A. Co. Registry of Wills, received from Maryland Archives in 2000 by this compiler. I am interested to know if one of the sons named George W. Ray may also have migrated over to Washington County, Kentucky with Nicholas Ray's Uncle Nicholas Ray, Sr. and his uncles John Ray, Sr. and Joseph Ray, Sr., as we find a man with the name of George W. Ray, living in Washington County for several years. You may also write to me at atsgene2002@yahoo.com Thanks, Ann T. Sipes Notify Administrator about this message?
