Ray Family Genealogy Forum

I have been a student of this family for over thirty years. Kathy and Ace, please write to me at atsgene2002@yahoo.com In 1993 I published the first volume of the Ray Book, A Family of Central Kentucky. This family came from Anne Arundel County, Maryland into Nelson and Washington Counties. My husband descends also from Absalom Ray and his wife, Susanna Mattingly. This Absalom Ray was born about 1760 and died before 1812 in then Washington County, Maryland. One of their sons, Elias Ray m. Margaret "Peggy Lamkin and they had a son named Absalom who married Mary Ellen Peak who settled in Meade County, KY This last couple are my husband's second great grandparents on his mother's side. Elias Ray also had a brother named Absalom Ray.
So far I have not found a realtionship between the Washington County Rays and General James Ray's (brother of William Ray, and both step-sons of Hugh McGary) bunch over at Harrodsburg. Although I'm sure they knew each other as John Ray, Sr. (father of Absalom who m. Susannah Mattingly) and his son, John Ray, Jr. who was a deputy surveyor and John Ray, Sr.'s younger brother, Nicholas were all tramping around laying off lands for themselves and relatives back in Maryland.

My book is in several libraries around. Write to me, I am anxious to share when I have time, and would like to know more about your family too.
