There is a connection between Ambrose Ray of Union SC and William Ray Sr. of Wake/ Granville NC . Brent Holcomb was hired to prove that Ambrose Ray of Union County and Ambrose RAY of Georgia, son of John Ray, were not the same . http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/r/i/Raymond-L-Prince/index.html Brent Holcomb's work for Janet Hindman, 1999 Janet hired Brent Holcomb to research Ambrose Ray and prove he is not the Ambrose Ray, son of John Ray and Susan Salisbury of Columbia Co., GA. The conclusion was that the Union Co., SC Ambrose Ray was too old to be in the Revolution and was never in Columbia Co., GA. He appears in numerous list in NC till 1774 then Union, SC from then on, along with other families that were listed in same documents in NC. [ This is the same Patrick McGarity that was born 11/5/1745 in Surry Co., VA, son of John and Mary Murphy McGarity. He is mentioned in his father's will. The Murphy's were in Surry Co., VA and I wonder if the Ray family was also from Surry Co., VA. Note the following that I have posted previously: Surry County Deeds, Wills, Etc., #9 (1738-1754), Page ? April 1746...The Petition brought by William Gray Gent. Against Mary Wray alias Magartiy is dismissed the plt. failing to prosecute.] http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:bsvF3JFRgA0J:freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~freshnup/markmurph/text/2.1.143M.txt+Patrick+McGarity&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us Additional info: Worth Ray in a letter ( see Ray Genforum) says that Ambrose Ray is the son of John RAY Oct. 11, 1718 of Prince Edward CO VA, who is son of Thomas Ray 1684, who is son of Christmas RAY Feb. 5, 1686. He also says that “This last Christmas Ray does not appear on this old church record again after that, but nearly 60 years later I found him having a law suit in old Granville County, N.C. Records “. (I have found 2 records for Christmas in Northampton ca 1750-52.) I read that the earliest Prince Edward settlers were from Amelia County VA. I also see a lot of familier names from Eastern NC (Chowan , Bertie in the deeds in Granville) The NAIL-RAY association says that William and William Jr were from Brunswick. County VA. (Google) I have additional info to post on George and Mary Ray , SC and Georgia, and John Ray , SC and Georgia that I believe are connected to this group. Hope this helps, Melissa Notify Administrator about this message?
