Jessica:

start by ordering your father's death certificate, then his birth certificate. Check the SSDI records for his social security and order that application. Your roots are most likely to Cornwall and Wales in England. The Ralphs were mainly welsh in heritage. Once you find the parents of your father, it will become a bit easier to locate other information. Happy hunting and if I can help you, please email me. My Ralph family came over in 1849 to Ellis Island, although the other side of the family was here from the Mayflower and before.
