My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Ralph. She was born in Scotland, but I know her father was Irish-Scots. My mother and one of my sisters have Hispanic colouring so we suspect that the Ralph's were 'Black Irish', in other words they were Spaniards who were ship-wrecked on the west coast of Ireland.
