Hello Ron,
I just came across your message from a couple of years ago. There's a slight possibility of a connection but we would need a bit more information to be sure. It's possible you are a descendant of my great uncle James Rae, born 1875. All that I know about him comes from my father's very imperfect memory in old age (he died 2 years ago aged 95) James was born, like me & my Dad, in the mining village of Larkhall and moved to the Parkhead district of Glasgow. He and his wife and three children emigrated to Canada around 1920. He thought that one of them, a son, possibly also called James, became a steward on the atlantic liners and one, maybe the same one, was a singer and performed on the radio in Canada. James senior's mother would be Agnes Rae (nee Wyllie) but I'm pretty sure she didn't travel to Canada; she would have been about 80 when they sailed, if still living. Maybe Agnes was also the name of James's wife? It was a very common name in the area in those days. Anyway, if any of this rings any bells, I can give you more info about the family and where they came from.
All the best
David Rae
