I don't know if you have any information that can help me, but I am running out of places to look. My husband's (Ricky Stevenson Ray) grandfather was Otis James Ray, who was born in Oklahoma in 1925. Otis's parents were Maurice Everett Ray and Ida Pearl Marsh.
Someone told me that Maurice Everett Ray was born in Missouri, probably around 1900, but I haven't been able to verify this.
However, several years ago, my husband's father, aunts, and unle, recieved portions of an inheritance that was supposed to go to Otis James Ray, but he passed away in 1989. A letter came with this inheritance, explaining that the family had come from England, and that Ray had been spelled differently, and that someone, possibly Maurice Everett Ray, had left his home over some disagreement, and changed the spelling of his name to Ray.
No one can remember the exact details of the letter, and no one can find it, so I don't know how the name was spelled before Ray, and I don't know what generation came over from England. This is too confusing for me.
