Here’s some more info on the Bureks & Lesniaks in my family. I don’t have too much, but it looks as if my G-Grandmother, Marya Burek, was born on March 25, 1864 in Kolaczyce, Galicia (near Rzeszow). Her parents were Michal Burek (I guesstimate he was born 1840ish) & Tekla Lesniak (maybe 1844). That’s as far back as I can go in this lineage.

Marya married twice – first to Karol Cerkiewicz, with whom she had 5 children that I know of – Tekla(1888), Stella(1890), Anna(1892), Joseph(1894), & Stanley(1895?). Karol died, & in 1906, Marya married Wladyslaw Dubiel. I don’t know if they had any children.

My grandmother Tekla married a Jan Lesniak (he appeared to be a lot older than Tekla – about 20 years older) and had 4 children with him – Charles(1904), Joseph(1907), John(1912) & Victoria(1915). Jan died in 1917, and my grandmother married Frank Brzozowski (a widower who had 11 children), and had 3 more – Stanley(1918), Chester(1920), & my Dad Theodore(1922).

Marya & all of her children settled on the East Side of Buffalo. As a child, I lived on Brownell near St. John Kanty’s. My Dad remembered that Marya lived across the street from him, & I have found her listed there in a census.

I think there may be a relation between our 2 families – they’re located in the same general area, & we have both sets of names in our backgrounds. In fact, I have Lesniaks appearing in 2 different generations.
