Lovell Pennell 1719-1788, my gggg grandparent established a business in Trespassey on the South Eastern Avalon Peninsula, in Newfoundland 1750-60. This was a codfish and fish oil business. At that time over 5000 men were employed in Devon West Country Ships in NFL See Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador (encl.cuff.com/entry/83/8317.htm)
This may be too far back from your family even if there is a connection. His two sons remained in NFL but died in sea storms I think without issue.
