Pictures: Bessie Jane Pennell Dula and Mary Estelle Childers Pennell
I have a picture of Bessie Jane Pennell Dula along with three of her children as well as an old family story that goes along with the group picture. Here is more information about Bessie Jane Pennell Dula. Bessie Jane Pennell Dula was a daughter of Reverend Archibald M. Pennell and Sarah Elizabeth White Walker Robinette. Reverend Archibald M. Pennell was a preacher at Dover Baptist Church located in the Ellendale Township of Alexander County, North Carolina. The Reverend Archibald M. Pennell was a son of Joseph "Joe" Pennell (Pinion) and Mary "Polly" Booth/Bouthe. Bessie Jane Pennell was married to Rome Wakefield Dula, Sr. Rome and Bessie had nine children (eight girls and one boy). The old family story is about Velva Dula Pennell, daughter of Rome Wakefield Dula, Sr. and Bessie Jane Pennell. Velva Dula was married to Walter Ralph Pennell, Sr., son of James Jasper Rivers "Uncle Riv" Pennell and Margaret Josephine "Aunt Josie" Bradburn. Bessie Jane Pennell Dula's paternal grandparents were Joseph "Joe" Pennell (Pinion) and Mary "Polly" Booth/Bouthe. Bessie Jane Pennell Dula's maternal grandfather was Jonas Porter White and his wife was Lucinda Catherine E. "Lucy" Pennell. Jonas and Lucy raised Sarah Elizabeth White Walker Robinette Pennell. The Reverend Archibald M. Pennell and Lucinda Catherine E. "Lucy" Pennell were siblings. Their parents were Joseph "Joe" Pennell (Pinion) and Mary "Polly" Booth/Bouthe.
I have a picture of Mary Estelle Childers Pennell as well as an old family story that goes with the picture. She was affectionately known as "Granny Down at the Branch". Here is more information about Mary Estelle Childers Pennell. Mary Estelle Childers Pennell was a daughter of Gill Alexander Childers and Sally Nimo Chapman. Mary Estelle Childers was married to Dock Thurston Pennell, son of Virgil Levi (Lee) Pennell and Fannie Walker. Mary Estelle Childers Pennell's maternal grandparents were William Milton Chapman and Georgia Celia Ann Pennell. Mary Estelle Childers Pennell's maternal great-grandmother was Amanda "Mandy" Pennell Dyson (Dison). Mary Estelle Childers Pennell's maternal great-great grandparents were Alexander "Alex" Pennell (Pinion) and Mary Ann "Anna/Annie" White.
