Between 1799-1803, Stephen Pace appears on the Johnston County Taxable Lists in Capt Wm Hinnant's district. (Johnston County North Carolina Taxable 1784-1820 Part I Weynette Parks Haun)

Stephen Pace and William Hinnant were both present at the estate sale of Jacob Walker in 1792 in Johnston County. Also at the sale was Solomon "Tommous", who seems likely to have been the same person as SOLOMON THOMAS.

Sales of Est. of Jacob WALKER, dec. 3 Nov. 1792. Wm. SMITH & Lucy WALKER, Admr. Buyers - Jacob GARNER, Wm. SMITH, Mason HEARN. Luce WATKINS, John KILLINGSWORTH, Wm. HINNANT, Donnald SEARCY, William WALKER, William GARNER, Willie GARNER, Jacob SPICER, Henry FINCH, Amos ADKERSON, Micajah ADKERSON, Willis WILDER, Majer WALKER, Lewis WALKER, George CUPPER, Stephen PIRCE, Samuel O'NEAL, Solomon TOMMOUS, James HOLDER, Stephen PACE, Geo. SEARCY, Randolph MORE, Ross O'NEIL, John MOOR, William HATCHER, Richard BALEY. (Records of Estates Johnston County North Carolina Vol. I-V 1781-1807, Elizabeth E. Ross, 1988)

Solomon Thomas was a son of Elisha Thomas, stepson of the William Pace who was a son of Richard Pace (d. 1738 Bertie Co).

Elisha Thomas, son of Barnaby Thomas, m. Feb 16 1764 to Lucy Massey. See http://files.usgwarchives.org/nc/johnston/wills/thomas01.txt for a transcript of his 1803 will, mentioning wife Lucy, sons Elisha, Barnaby, Solomon, and daughters Elizabeth Hinton, Cynthia Hayles, Lucy Lockhart, Winford Lockhart, Penelope Thomas. Excrs wife, son Elisha, and John Vinson. Wit: John Gully, George Gully, Jesse Wall.

Elisha Thomas's daughter Cynthia was married to John Hayles, whose 1804 will names excrs wife Cynthia, John Vinson, and Elisha Thomas; wits: Freeman Killingsworth Senr, Lion Green, Jesse Green

I believe the associations between the Thomas family and the family of William Pace (son of Richard Pace of Bertie Co) add to the circumstantial evidence supporting my suggestion that the Stephen Pace who attended Jacob Walker's estate sale was probably from the line of Richard Pace of Bertie Co.
