Between 1799-1803, Stephen Pace appears on the Johnston County Taxable Lists in Capt Wm Hinnant's district. (Johnston County North Carolina Taxable 1784-1820 Part I Weynette Parks Haun)

Stephen Pace and William Hinnant were both present at the estate sale of Jacob Walker in 1792 in Johnston County.

Sales of Est. of Jacob WALKER, dec. 3 Nov. 1792. Wm. SMITH & Lucy WALKER, Admr. Buyers - Jacob GARNER, Wm. SMITH, Mason HEARN. Luce WATKINS, John KILLINGSWORTH, Wm. HINNANT, Donnald SEARCY, William WALKER, William GARNER, Willie GARNER, Jacob SPICER, Henry FINCH, Amos ADKERSON, Micajah ADKERSON, Willis WILDER, Majer WALKER, Lewis WALKER, George CUPPER, Stephen PIRCE, Samuel O'NEAL, Solomon TOMMOUS, James HOLDER, Stephen PACE, Geo. SEARCY, Randolph MORE, Ross O'NEIL, John MOOR, William HATCHER, Richard BALEY. (Records of Estates Johnston County North Carolina Vol. I-V 1781-1807, Elizabeth E. Ross, 1988)

William Hinnant was a son of John Hinnant. The will of John Hinnant, proved Johnston Co Nov 1768, mentions his son John and also his daughter Patience Newsom.

Patience Hinnant married (1) John Newsom, son of Joel Newsom and Rebecca Dickinson, and (2) Jesse Aycock; Patience Hinnant's Newsom grandchildren are mentioned both in the will of Jesse Aycock (proved 1823 Wayne Co NC) and the will of Patience (proved 1828 Wayne Co).

John Newsom (husband of Patience and brother-in-law of the William Hinnant who attened Jacob Walker's estate sale), was a 1st cousin (once removed) of Mary Newsom who married Silas Pace, grandson of Richard Pace (d. 1738 Bertie Co).

John Newsom's will (proved 1790 Johnston County) mentions son Joel and daughters Zilpha, Sarah, Martha, Elizabeth, and Bethana. Zilpha Newsom married as her second husband George Gulley. George Gulley, together with John Gulley and Jesse Wall, witnessed the 1803 JoCo will of Elisha Thomas, son of Barnabas Thomas who died by 1740 in Bertie Co, when William Pace was granted tuition over his orphans Elisha and Barbarey [Barnaby?]. By Aug 1741, when a current account report on the estate of Barnaby Thomas was presented in court, William Pace had married the widow. Thus, William Pace was stepfather of Elisha Thomas whose will was witnessed by George and John Gully. Others record show that this William Pace was the son of Richard Pace (d. ca. 1738 Bertie Co). William Pace married secondly to Celia Boykin; his 1775 Northampton County will mentions his son Stephen Pace.

I believe these associations, in addition to those previously posted, provide some circumstantial evidence supporting my suggestion that Stephen Pace who appeared in William Hinnant's District in Johnston County was from the line of Richard Pace (d. 1738 Bertie Co).
