BRYAN, jr., Robt. GULLEY Aug Ct 1799 ackd. R. SANDERS Clk. (Johnston County NC Abstracts Deed Books Z-1, Z-1, A-2, B-2 1799-1803 Vol. VI, Weynette Parks Haun) Between 1799-1803, Stephen Pace appears on the Johnston County Taxable Lists in Capt Wm Hinnant's district. (Johnston County North Carolina Taxable 1784-1820 Part I Weynette Parks Haun) Stephen Pace and William Hinnant were both present at the estate sale of Jacob Walker in 1792 in Johnston County. "Majer Walker" was also present: Sales of Est. of Jacob WALKER, dec. 3 Nov. 1792. Wm. SMITH & Lucy WALKER, Admr. Buyers - Jacob GARNER, Wm. SMITH, Mason HEARN. Luce WATKINS, John KILLINGSWORTH, Wm. HINNANT, Donnald SEARCY, William WALKER, William GARNER, Willie GARNER, Jacob SPICER, Henry FINCH, Amos ADKERSON, Micajah ADKERSON, Willis WILDER, Majer WALKER, Lewis WALKER, George CUPPER, Stephen PIRCE, Samuel O'NEAL, Solomon TOMMOUS, James HOLDER, Stephen PACE, Geo. SEARCY, Randolph MORE, Ross O'NEIL, John MOOR, William HATCHER, Richard BALEY. (Records of Estates Johnston County North Carolina Vol. I-V 1781-1807, Elizabeth E. Ross, 1988) In Halifax Co NC, in 1779, Stephen Pace and Major Walker sold property together: MAJOR WALKER and STEPHEN PACE to JESSE BRYANT, 20 Aug 1779. 750 pounds. 160 acres, joining Hills Mill Branch, BLACKBURN, Kehukey [Swamp], FOREMAN. MAJOR WALKER, STEPHEN PACE, ANN PACE(x). Wit: JOS. NELMS. JOHN BISHOP, STEPHEN BARKER. Aug Ct 1779. Examined by Henry Montfort Esq, ANN PACE relinquished her right of dower. (Halifax Co DB 14) So it's probable that the Stephen Pace and Majer Walker who attended Jacob Walker's estate sale in 1792 were either the same men as in the Halifax deed, or at any rate were from the same families as those in the Halifax deed. An earlier Major Walker was a son-in-law of William Fort (son of John Fort and Elizabeth Jordan of Surry Co VA). (See "Adventurers of Purse and Person", ed. John Dorman, 4th ed., v.3). William Fort, who died before 1747, owned land on Kehukey Swamp; it's possible this land was either the land sold by Major Walker and Stephen Pace in 1779, or was nearby. William Fort's nephew Arthur Fort (son of William's brother John) appears to have married a granddaughter of Richard Pace (d. 1738 Bertie Co); see the "Barnabas Pace letter", Avant, "Some Southern Colonial Families", v. 2. I believe these associations, added to the Moore/Price associations, provide some circumstantial evidence in support of my theory that Stephen Pace in Johnston County was from the line of Richard Pace (d. 1738 Bertie Co).
