The really interesting linage in the 3b group is from Stephen. Stephen is supposedly a son of John the tory. If this is so then the 2 step mutation that separates 3a and 3b probably occurred with Burwell. All of Burwell's descendants show the mutation on that site. If this is indeed the case there would be only a one step mutation between John and group 3a. This would make the probability of 3a and 3b being closely related much more likely. Family tree dna contacts indicated that it is much more likely that a mutation occurred with Burwell than a reverse mutation occurring with Stephen. Chances of a double reverse mutation are not likely. The U of Az is studying the % of mutation at each allele site but nothing has been published. I suspect that reverse double mutations are extremely rare. Notify Administrator about this message?
